Wellness And Health: Definitions And Importance
I love to be loved, am fluent in silence and…
Now that 2019 is here, people are constantly seeking various ways towards a state of optimal well-being and a better life. Especially, since life is becoming more dynamic and hectic day by day, it’s important to try and make changes that lead us to live a higher qualitative life.
After all, it is generally known that one of the priority areas we wish for ourselves and all the people in the world is to be well and healthy. We also know that when people get older, in a way they try to be more aware of the importance of health. Usually, the elders’ mantra becomes: “If you have health, you have everything.”
However sometimes because of genetics, or because of various accidents and other injuries that can happen in everybody’s life, I shall say controlling your health to that larger dimension in which you are always in a good health condition – is almost impossible, no matter your age. That’s why we should try and focus on wellness – as an effective way of steering ourselves to be healthy and reducing the risk of getting sick.

Now, wellness does matter a lot because it directly indicates your health. Also, good health affects our emotions and actions. This is why we tend to feel better when everything is going fine with our physical welfare. The circle is ongoing and being able to first make a distinction between wellness and health, helps us to better shape our views on the importance of these two interconnected areas.
Definitions
World Health Organization defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
On the other hand, the National Wellness Institute defines wellness as “a conscious, self-directed and evolving process of achieving full potential.”
With that said, we come to understand that these two are quite connected to each other. We can actively use wellness to reach our desired goal of health and therefore reduce illness. On broader horizons, health, wellness, and well-being are used as synonyms and using them for the same purpose is rarely wrong.
Moreover, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects are also aspects of health and they play a major role in your physical welfare. In order to develop and maintain good wellness habits, one has to try and make changes in the lifestyle. It can include changing eating habits, exercising, avoiding smoking, or not drinking too much alcohol.
Also, mental health is of great importance and meditation techniques have proven to be very effective in helping people to relax after a hectic day. Expect meditation, other forms of assistance can be reached to help one subdue depression or anxiety, handle stress and deal with other issues that prevent people from living a healthy life.

Importance
Health
The word health refers not only to a state of being free of any physical ailments, but also a good state of emotional well-being. Health also means to be able to recover and cope with any problem that threatens our well-being. The most common types of health that are overly discussed are physical and mental health. Having good physical health doesn’t always come by default. Sometimes one has to regularly exercise, be careful with nutrition and also receive adequate treatments when needed, Medical News Today writes.
If we are physically healthy, it means that our bodily functions are working at their best and we are free of any illness or injury. However, it is important to note another time that this state is also about pursuing a lifestyle that doesn’t lead to diseases and other health problems. Physical health matters because it’s directly connected to mental health. On the other hand, mental health is also important to live an active and healthy lifestyle. It refers to a person’s emotional, social, and psychological well-being.
Wellness
In order to reach an optimum level of health, there are 8 wellness dimensions to address and one should try and balance them. These are occupational, emotional, spiritual, environmental, financial, physical, social, and intellectual wellness.
Furthermore, to achieve greater results towards a healthy lifestyle, one can try and make small changes such as substituting soda with water, avoiding fast food, and doing body exercises as often as one can. In order to function properly and live your life to the highest potential, wellness and health are crucial factors for every human being.
Remember, the daily choices we make can have a greater impact on living a healthy and fulfilling life. Therefore, if wellness is a choice – choose it!
