How To Remove Dark Spots On Face: 4 Home Remedies

At some point in our lives, we all have to deal with dark spots. These discolored patches that appear on our face are also known as black spots or hyperpigmentation. They might appear on the forehead, cheek, and area above the upper lip and usually come in different shades and sizes. However, they can also pop up in our body and especially in the elders’ hands.  Also, they are quite common in people of different ages but are more of a common complaint in women.

Dark spots might look unsightly and might be a great source of distress for those afflicted by them. They appear due to the overproduction of melanin – the pigment that gives our skin color.

In addition, as we previously mentioned there are different types of hyperpigmentations. Those that are milder or newly formed can be treated with exfoliation cleansers and other home remedies. However, there are some other types of dark spots that cannot be easily removed and you’ll need to consult with your dermatologist to treat them.

Now, there are various reasons why dark spots appear. Sometimes it is due to the natural process of aging, other times due to hormone fluctuations, sun exposure, medications you’re taking or simply blemishes that are left after acne treatment or other skin irritations. Dark spots can even turn into freckles and some people use various makeup tips to enhance them. However, there are others that don’t like the black spots that suddenly appear on their face and continuously look for ways to get rid of them.

So, instead of covering them with makeup, or running to your dermatologist, if dark spots are newly formed you can try and treat them with the home remedies below. Hopefully, they will help you to get back the perfect complexion you once had:

Lemon

If your dark spots are mild, lemon is a natural route to choose and fade away the discoloration that is preoccupying you. All you have to do is squeeze a lemon and use the juice twice a day in those areas when dark spots have appeared. You can use a tissue or a cotton ball to apply the juice to your affected area. Beware and use only the juice of natural lemon, as the ones that we buy from grocery stores might have other ingredients added, and we don’t need that.

Onion

Another home product that helps you lighten dark spots is red onion. Leaving aside its smell, onion can do miracles almost effortlessly if you are consistent in its application. All you have to do is cut an onion and take its juice. Then take a Q-tip, dip it into the juice and apply it to areas where your dark spots appeared. Leave it for 10 or 15 minutes and then rinse it with warm water.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant which helps your body repair damaged skin cells and reproduce new ones. Not talking here about fruits that are rich in vitamin C but using vitamin C as a serum or gel to treat dark spots on your face can help you get impressive impacts on your skin. You can either opt for other skincare products that contain vitamin C as it is scientifically proven that this vitamin largely helps to lighten the hyperpigmented areas on your face.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil is the next product that can help you combat the battle with dark spots. It contains vitamin E and it improves many skin problems including hyperpigmentation. The procedure of using coconut oil in the affected areas of your skin is simple just make sure that you’re not heating it, as it contains more vitamins when coconut oil is cold. So, apply coconut oil to the dark patches you’ve noticed and let your skin absorb it. For better results, you should apply it consistently and as time goes by it will help you get an even skin tone with no patches.

Some more tips to have a spot-free skin:

Drink more water – Increase water consumption as it helps one relieve all the harmful toxins from the body. Opt for 8 glasses of water per day and you’ll notice that your skin becomes healthier and spot-free day by day.

Wear sunscreen – One of the causes of black spots is sun exposure. And sunlight is the main source of UV rays. To better protect our skin, we should add another component to our skin care regimen and that is sunscreen. To prevent further dark spots from appearing into your skin, wear sunscreen and you’re good to go.

If the above natural treatments don’t result in success, the best way to treat dark spots before using any cream on your own would be to see a dermatologist. They have the expertise and can help you fade and eliminate black spots completely.
