6 Home Remedies To Remove Hair Dye Stains From Skin

Every once in a while, we want at least a little bit of change. And in most of these cases, we opt for hair changes. Getting bangs, getting that pixie cut, dying your hair bright fiery red. All of these cross your mind when you want something new and endearing in your life. However, getting a new hair color is way less risky than getting a pixie cut, right? Right, but the thing is that there is one little problem. Hair dye stains all over your hands, hairline as well as ears. We all love a strong and effective hair dye, but the more effective the hair dye is on your strands, the more difficult it is to remove its stains on skin.

The best thing to do as a preventive is to get your hair dyed professionally, but we all know how expensive that can be. The next best thing you can do is try some at-home remedies that will help you remove the dye from the skin.

Here are some tips and tricks that you can use:

1. Petroleum Jelly

Petroleum jelly is a great way to avoid getting those stains. Simply rub it on your skin close to your hairline and over the ears before you proceed with dying your hair. However, when the damage is already done, there is no point in crying over spilled milk, right? So, the good news is that petroleum jelly works wonders even after the damage has been done. Start by applying a bead of jelly onto the stain and then begin rubbing it onto the skin, massaging it gently until you notice that the stain is disappearing. If you notice that the jelly is getting hues of the hair dye, it means that it is working, YAY! However, if you don’t see results, then you can try applying the petroleum jelly and leaving it overnight. Wash it off with a warm wet cloth afterwards.

I mean, the benefits of olive oil are no longer a surprise to us. Be if for skincare, for a healthy way of living, olive oil works wonders. It is not harsh at all, so it won’t create some abrasive effect on the skin. But here is where the drawback lies. Since it doesn’t have abrasive properties, olive oil is not quite as effective as other remedies that are abrasive. But when you think of the bigger picture, being a little patient is worth way more than causing damage to your skin. So, give olive oil a go.

Apply it onto the stain and begin rubbing it gently. You can leave it on for hours or even overnight. If you decide to leave it on overnight, then try to cover it up with a headband since your pillowcase can get stained with dye as well. If you’re removing hair dye from your hands, then try wearing gloves to bed and everything will turn out great.

Then, gently scrub over your stains with circular motions until you reach the desired effect.

This method works quite well, however, people who have sensitive skin should not scrub the area with a toothbrush. Instead, try scrubbing with your finger, a cotton ball or even a cotton washcloth. After you’re done scrubbing, wash the toothpaste off with warm water and then pat the area dry.
