How To Get Rid Of Dark Circles Under Your Eyes Fast Using Cucumber
I fancy a good ambiguous poem, a pair of antique…
What are dark circles under the eyes? Well, they are basically the result of the thin layer of skin under the eyes showing the blood contained in the vessels more prominently than in any other part of the body. Dark circles are often referred to as periorbital dark circles, with periorbital being the tissue that surrounds the orbit of the eye. More specifically, the skin under or around the eyes is quite thin in comparison to the skin on the other parts of the body. Research shows that the skin under the eyes is about 0.5 mm whereas on the other parts of the body the skin is about 2 mm thick.
What causes dark circles under the eyes?
One of the most common causes of dark circles is, well, age. However, since not only elderly people get dark circles, there are also plenty of other factors that might be contributing to darkened under-eyes. One of those factors is also eye strain, standing too long in front of the screen, lack of sleep and even excessive sleep, stress, nasal allergies, dehydration, eye-rubbing, and even smoking. These factors cause the blood vessels under the thin skin of the area around the eyes to dilate, and therefore a darker tint is created.

However, there are just so many people looking for ways to remove dark circles fast. Why are cucumbers effective in removing dark circles under the eyes?
One of the natural products you could use to remove your dark circles under the eyes fast is also the cucumber. Research has shown that cucumber is antioxidant-rich, more specifically it includes cucurbitacins, orientin, isoscoparin, and vitexin, as well as vitamins C and K. And these antioxidants can be absorbed through the skin. The Vitamin K can reduce dark discoloration in people who undergo laser treatments and get bruising, and it works with under-eye dark circles as well.
Ways you can remove dark circles under the eyes fast using cucumbers:
1. Use Cucumber Slices
The cold cucumber slices are quite helpful in giving your eyes instant relaxation due to the coldness they contain. However, the result of removing dark under-eye circles come due to the cucumber itself. As mentioned, the antioxidants in the cucumber and the astringent effect of the juice in the cucumber help lighten the dark circles. The skin is refreshed because the relaxed capillaries in the skin under the eyes improve blood circulation.
What you need to do is keep a cucumber in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes or more, then cut two thin slices. Lie down in a comfortable position on your back in the bed and apply each of the slices over your eyes. However, you need to replace the slices every minute or two and place freshly cut ones. Proceed like this for about 20 minutes and then wash it off with water. Do it daily for around 2 weeks.
2. Use Cucumber Juice Directly
Research has shown that you can also use the cucumber juice directly into your skin. Simply take half of a cucumber and throw it in a blender, what you will get as a result is a watery paste. After cleaning your hands apply the mask to your skin, and the area around the eyes, with your fingers. In order for it not to drip, simply put a towel or pillow around your neck. Keep like that for 20 minutes and rinse it off with warm water afterwards.
3. Cucumber Eye Mask
What you need to do for this eye mask is grate the cucumber and let it chill in the refrigerator for about half an hour. Then, spread it evenly around your eyes and just relax for 30 minutes. After all is said and done, wash it off with cold water.
4. Chilled Cucumber Pads
You can also use cucumber pads as part of your ‘reducing-dark-circles-routine’. Simply peel and chop 1 cucumber. Put it in a blender while mixing it with 1 cup of water until it becomes smooth. Then take the cotton pads and soak them in the mixture, squeeze the excess liquid and put them in a Ziploc bag. Put them in the refrigerator and let them cool for a while. After they cool, apply them to your eyes and leave them on for 15 minutes until dry.
When the pads dry, remove them and rinse with cool water. You should proceed like this for about 3 times a week. Note: You can store the refrigerated pads for up to 30 days.
5. Eat Cucumber
Last but not least, don’t forget to eat cucumber. It’s known as a ‘beauty food’ that hydrates the body and helps fight against dark circles.
