Some of the ways you can use ginger as a home-remedy are as a soup or tea.

Cleansing Ginger-Chicken Soup

A good hearty chicken soup combined with the benefits of ginger, and your cold won’t stand a chance.

What you will need:

  • 1 sliced onion
  • 2 chopped celery stalks
  • 8 ounces unpeeled scrubbed ginger, cut into ½-inch-thick slices
  • 2 crushed garlic cloves
  • 10 whole black peppercorns
  • 1 3-pound whole organic chicken, cut into 7 pieces (2 breasts, 2 legs with thighs attached, 2 wings, 1 back)
  • Kosher salt

Ginger Tea

To make ginger tea, just add a couple slices of fresh ginger slices to a cup of hot water. Let it steep a few minutes before drinking and then you can add honey or lemon juice in order to improve the taste.

However, keep in mind that the suggested dosage for an adult is  3 – 4 grams of ginger extract per day, while it is not recommended to be used for children under the age of 2. And while it’s good for both nausea and colds, pregnant women should not consume more than 1 gram of ginger extract per day.

So, even though those recipes are delicious, I would not recommend having a four-course meal with all ginger recipes – unless you want a case of heartburn, that is. Still, if consumed in appropriate quantities, ginger is healthy, delicious, and has close to no side effects. It is also on the FDA’s “generally recognized as safe” list.

Enjoy your ginger recipe!
