5 Effective Tips For Oily Hair
I love to be loved, am fluent in silence and…
To all the people who have greasy or oily hair – I feel you. At times it’s confusing to see our hair that greasy just the next day after we’ve washed it. We don’t know whether this is coming from our poor washing routine or it is just the way it is and we can’t do much about it. We long to read more about tips for oily hair.
Well, it’s a general fact that when our locks are fresh and just washed, we kind of feel better and more confident to go on and finish the daily tasks. Otherwise, when our hair tends to be oily, we try to find ways to make it less obvious in others’ eyes. Either we tie it on ponytails or we wear hats. Oh, again a hat day – we fret! But probably there’s a good side on this story. As it always happens with all the other insecurities we have about ourselves, oily hair always seems far worse from our perspective than from what others actually see.
Now, we already know that the hair already has its own natural oil named sebum, but when sebum is overproduced from sebaceous glands, that is the moment we come to confront with oily hair.
Have you considered any tips so far to keep your hair vitalized and refreshed? Do you want to keep the hair’s natural oil production under control? For sure you have, and if all your efforts didn’t end well, you’ve come to the right place.

1. Be careful with rinsing
Did you know that shampoos and the cleansing routine can have a huge impact on your greasy hair? Yes, because your hair is delicate and if shampoo is not well rinsed it can lead to an oil overproduction from sebaceous glands. So, be careful with hair cleansing and make sure to rinse it well before getting out of the shower, and if you use a conditioner choose a lightweight one. Or you can try to use conditioner first and then the shampoo. Many lightweight conditioners in the market can help you replenish and balance the moisture on your scalp. You can also try and apply conditioner only at the ends of the hair and then make sure to rinse it thoroughly. Adapting these little changes to your washing routine will eventually lead to training your hair to be less greasy as time goes by.
2. Wash it less often
Your washing cycle plays a major role in the accumulation of oil in your own hair. As it is known, the hair needs its natural oil – sebum to keep it healthy and shiny. However, an overproduction of sebum can lead you to have greasy hair. Try and change your washing routine, and hopefully, you will soon resolve the problem.
At first, you can use baby powder or dry shampoo that help to soak up the oil from your greasy hair. Other times you might need to wear a hat or do your hair in ponytails or braids. In the meantime, your hair will be trained with the new washing routine and it won’t be greasy as it used to be.

3. Balance your brushing and don’t touch your hair often
If you don’t brush your hair enough, it might keep your hair’s natural oils from being distributed. On the other hand, if you brush your hair often, you can also stimulate oil production. So, try to find a balance in brushing it. Also, since you touch so many things during the day and also because your hands produce oil, it can be transferred to your hair if you frequently touch and play with it.
4. Avoid straightening it
When your hair lies straight down, it is close to the head, and there is a greater chance for the oil to travel down with ease. Therefore if you curl your hair, it gives more volume to the roots and it keeps your hair from becoming too oily too quickly.
5. Be careful with the products you use
Does your hair feel greasy even after you’ve washed it? Or it looks refreshed, voluminous and bouncy? Well, sometimes we might be using the wrong products for our hair, and as a consequence excess oil is accumulated. Different sprays might give that updo a final touch, but they might also contribute to the build-up of oil in your hair. Try and use products that are oil-free and avoid the ones that make your hair ‘shiny’ as they might be contributing to the ‘shiny’ hair we don’t want.
Lastly, we hope that these tips will be helpful to you and you will finally combat the battle with greasy hair once and forever!
