How To Apply Foundation Flawlessly With 7 Easy Steps
I am often struck with the desire to step off…
Here is one little secret of mine that I want to share with you guys today. I have always loved the way my skin would look with foundation on, but I have also always hating putting it. It just seemed to me that applying foundation is drudgery work for me. 🤷♀️🤷♀️ There is also one more reason why I didn’t enjoy it much. I have had my fair share of adult acne. They manifested themselves in my teenage years and somehow decided to set camp for way longer than that. For a whole year, I didn’t put anything on my face except the doctor recommended creams and treatments.
So, when acne finally cleared up, I thought it would be a good idea to start putting makeup on again since I absolutely love it. Putting on foundation didn’t sound well to me and it wasn’t fair to my acne self who spent hours and hours (and quite a pile of money) just to help my skin breathe and get better. However, the thing is that makeup doesn’t look good at all without at least some foundation. So at some point, I had to suck it up and do something about it. The first thing I had to do was find a foundation that suited my skin, not too thick and not too liquidy. And definitely, one that is oil free and for acne prone skin.
Then, there was the problem of how to actually apply it so it doesn’t look smudged all over my skin. And to tell you the truth, I have found the perfect method.

1. Clean up your face.
Before you begin doing anything, it is recommended that you prep up your face. That means to clean it thoroughly. Take a makeup remover and a cotton pad, even if you’re not wearing any makeup. Apply some makeup remover onto the cotton pad and then scrub the skin gently. Then, to remover any extra excess oil, wash your face with the cleanser you usually use. After you’re done, pat your face dry with the help of a cotton cloth and then you’re ready to begin.
2. Prep up your face.
Even the best type of foundation will look flaky and dry if you don’t moisturize your skin before you apply it. Before you get to the foundation part, apply a bit of lotion all over your face, except over your eyelids. After you do that, allow your skin to sit for five to ten minutes. This way your skin will soak up the moisture from the lotion or cream and it will welcome the foundation.
3. Add foundation.
Now take your foundation and apply two to three pumps on your hand. You can also pump it directly onto your face on your cheeks and forehead but you’ll see that the other method is much easier. Then, with the help of the foundation brush (it’s one of those flat and thick brushes) spread it over your face. Start in the center and then go outwards. The idea here is to simply spread the foundation all over the face so, it doesn’t have to be perfect.
4. Blend it out evenly.
This one is the most important step of them all. Blending the foundation evenly is very important because it will make your skin look flawless. Take a makeup sponge, meaning a beauty blender. In case you didn’t know, beauty blenders need to be damp before you can use it. So soak it under running water and squeeze it so that it soaks in water. After that, make sure to squeeze out all the excess water.
Start blending the foundation by dabbing the skin all over. Simply dab, dab, dab. It is very important not to smudge or swipe left and right with the beauty blender. Most beauty blenders have pointed tips and you can use them to dab and spread evenly the foundation around your eyes and their corners.
5. Fix anything that you don’t like.
Here’s the tricky part. If you had any pimples or zits that you wanted to make disappear and the foundation didn’t really do a good job, there’s something else you can do. Take your concealer and dab just a tad of it over the desired area. Then, let it sit for at least five minutes. After five minutes have elapsed, take the beauty blender and dab it gently. Make sure to blend it well so that the spot doesn’t look lighter. However, this is totally optional. Do whatever makes you feel more comfortable.
6. Set your foundation.
No matter how much time you spend trying to get that perfect blending, your makeup will begin to ‘melt’ in a few hours. However, the good news is that there is something you can do about it. With the help of translucent powder, or even baby powder, you can help your foundation set still during the whole day. Dust some powder over the T-zone with a huge fluffy makeup brush and then wipe off all the extra powder. This will help your makeup withstand a whole day.
7. Just sit back and be proud of yourself.
There it is. Take a long look in the mirror, pat yourself on the back and wear your foundation with pride. You made it. The perfect foundation you’ve been trying to achieve for months now. These are all simple and easy-to-follow steps. You can’t mess it up. Trust me, if I can’t mess this up, and I mess everything up, then you got this, too. Hats off to us!
This process works out even if you’re a beginner in makeup. If you feel like you missed a step or something doesn’t feel right, no need to panic. Just go back and read it thoroughly and you’re good to go.
