For some people, tattoos are like shoes. They want to “buy” a new one every season. Their body is fully-covered with tattoos. But for some, it’s a devastating thought to put ink on their bodies. Tattoos are indeed different. You can get ones in color, too. Check out these watercolor ones for starters, but if you are in for something bolder, keep reading.
A Turkish tattooist is turning his clients into walking photo albums. Alican Gorgu uses their dearest old photographs and transforms them onto people’s bodies.
Alican Gorgu (AKA PigmentNinja) is an Istanbul-based tattooist. The artist tattoos people with whatever childhood memories they want, using his own distinct style. This style is referred to as “Retro Minimal”.
“I majored in photography at college,” he told Bored Panda.
He didn’t really love doing photography, so he dedicated himself to tattooing.
“I made a connection between my college degree and what I wanted to do. It’s an indescribable feeling to tattoo photographs taken in different parts of the world at different times. For example, I have tattooed a family portrait taken in Mexico in the ‘60s as well as one of a family in the US in the ‘80s. I work with small spaces and minimize details, keeping the essentials, to transfer these memories on to the skin.”
Here are some of his best works below. You can also find Alican on Instagram, where he has almost 40k followers.
