Imagine being 18 years old and wanting to apply for a job, full of confidence. Then, after the interview you get this shocking text.
When 18-years-old Megan Dixon, applied in the company Miller and Carter in Enderby, Leicestershire for a waitress position, the one thing she wasn’t expecting at all, was the assistant manager to text her saying she was “basic”. There was even a crying-laughing emoji involved.
Megan was interviewed by Shantell Wesson which only moments after her interview texted her saying “It’s a no”. She had been very unprofessional, and the lady didn’t even shake her hand when Megan first went in.
“I thought it was strange she didn’t shake my hand, I thought she would have been more professional,” the Megan said.
“She had her phone out for the entire time, I didn’t really feel like I was in an interview,” she added.
In response to the weird, shocking, text message Megan asked “Okay. How come?”, to which she received the ‘rude’ reply of “Just not engaging. And answers were “like” basic 😂.”
Megan tweeted the text message saying: “Imagine going for a job interview and the woman says she will email u in a few days but then waits 1 minute after you leave to text you this 😂”.
During an interview with Daily Mail she said that she might understand why her answers were basic but that wasn’t a reason for her to be this mean.
“Shantel was asking about my proudest moment but I’m only 18 so it’s not like I can say my kid or my marriage. To text me a minute after I’d walked out saying that is nasty.”
She says that she regrets that she didn’t go back there, even her mom was pissed off. Wesson refused to comment but when the Sun contacted the company they were really sorry.
“It was never our intention to be disrespectful or upset her in any way.”
The texts were sent in error and were intended for our manager, not the candidate. Miller and Carter have said they’re taking the incident ‘extremely seriously’ and it would be investigated.
