Selena Gomez Reveals Her Best Friend Saved Her Life By Urgently Donating A Kidney

01

The 25-year-old singer and actress Selena Gomez had had a lot on her back in the past few years, but everyone was wondering where she went the whole summer. Although her fans knew she was battling the auto-immune disease Lupus for years, they never would have imagined that she needed surgery. Barney&Friends actress revealed this morning on her Instagram account that the reason she was absent was her recovery from a recent kidney transplant. And that wasn’t the only news that shocked her fans. As a matter of fact, it was her very best friend who saved her life.

Selena had been laying low for a few weeks over the summer. It turns out Selena urgently needed a kidney.

In an Instagram post, the former Disney star revealed the truth around her absence:

I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made. It looks like Selena has a real friend by her side! Francia, who donated her organ, is a close friend that had previously shared a tribute to Selena on her birthday last year.

Here is a news report on Selena’s Lupus condition:

Selena was forced to step away from the spotlight in 2013 in order to undergo chemotherapy. Doctors diagnosed her with lupus. Lupus is a potentially fatal auto-immune disease. Actually, the immune system attacks healthy tissue leading to inflammation in many parts of the body. The symptoms include pain or swelling in the joints, muscle pain, fever, chest pain, hair loss, and extreme fatigue. Selena admitted her fight with the condition was hard. She even had to spend two weeks at a treatment centre in January 2014.
