Robert ‘Bob’ Carter, the father of Backstreet Boys star Nick and his younger brother, singer Aaron Carter, has passed away aged 65. His son Nick, 37, announced the news via Twitter on Wednesday, revealing that Robert had died the previous night.

“I am heartbroken to share the news that our father, Robert, passed away last night. While we learn more about the cause of death, and begin the grieving process, we ask that our privacy be respected at this difficult time,” the older Carter brother wrote.

Aaron, 29, shared a tribute on Instagram: “We are so hurt we lost you poppa way too soon. You were never human to me, you were always my real life superhero.”

Details surrounding the cause of death have not yet been released, although speculation has surfaced that Robert Carter may have died of heart complications

Robert was part of the family’s reality show called House of Carters which along with Nick and Aaron, included his three daughters: Leslie, Angel and Bobbie.
