Plus-Sized Model Went On An Amazing Rant About Bikini Sizes On Instagram

Body positivity is something that’s getting a lot of attention on social media today. More and more  plus sized models that are encouraging that every body type is beautiful and that you shouldn’t feel ashamed about your own body join the women with slim waists and flat tummies.

Just like with being slim however, being plus sized does bring a lot of downsides that just make your life difficult, and Sonny Turner, a London-based plus sized model recently went on a rant about one specific problem that all plus-sized girls have: buying a bikini.

When you read the rant, I think you’ll agree that it has been copied from every single slightly larger woman’s mouth, word for word.

Before we get to the amazing and amazingly correct rant however, let’s just take a moment to appreciate her encouragement of all sizes of women bodies?

Here’s an example:

She posted this photo on Instagram, debunking the myth that posed or not, any body looks amazing.

There’s always a huge pressure on women to look as sexy as possible; flat tums, thin waists, perky boobs and thigh gaps the size of a country, but come on, if we get just a little bit closer to reality, where’s the fun in having to keep a strong regime to look amazing the whole time? Isn’t it better to enjoy life, love your body and do whatever you want?

“LOOK HOW I WENT FROM INSTA BADDIE TO INSTA ”FATTIE” REAL QUICK. … In 0.5 seconds I can have the worshipped hourglass figure [but] I had to suck my stomach in, sit in an awkward position and angle my camera so I looked as though my waist was skinnier.” she wrote in one of her Instagram posts.

And she says she’s done apologizing for being thick, having boobs, having hair on her body, and that she’s being an advocate for diversity. She also says she couldn’t care less about the good ol’ male opinion.

After hearing what an amazing and careless (in a good way) attitude she has, you’ll obviously want to hear about her rant. And you definitely do.

This is what she had to say:

“Changing rooms can be scary places. I am wearing the largest size from one of the most popular high street stores sells in bikinis which is 12-14. High street store bikinis do not cater to women of my body type. Majority of online stores don’t either. NO ONE GETS IT.”

After the introduction, she went on with a few words of advice for bikini companies… in all capital letters, just to make sure the message hits home:

“BIG BREASTS NEED UNDERWIRE FOR SUPPORT FOR A YOUTHFUL LIFT.

WE NEED CUP SIZES THAT CORRELATE TO BRA SIZES AND THEY NEED TO GO PAST DD.

WE NEED CUPS THAT ACTUALLY COVER MORE THAN OUR NIPPLE.

WE NEED CUPS THAT BRING OUR BOOBS TOGETHER SO THERE’S NOT A MASSIVE GAP IN-BETWEEN THEM.

WE NEED STRAPS THAT AREN’T SO TIGHT ITS AS THOUGH OUR NECK IS ABOUT TO SNAP OFF.

WE NEED BIKINI BOTTOMS THAT DON’T GIVE US WEDGIES WHEN WE WALK.

8

WE NEED STRING BIKINIS THAT DON’T EXPOSE OUR VAGINA LIPS.

WE NEED SWIMSUITS THAT FIT OVER OUR HIPS WITHOUT DRAGGING THE NECK OF THE COSTUME DOWN CAUSING NECK ACHE.

WE DESERVE MORE CHOICE IN THE SELECTION FOR OUR BODY TYPE THAT ISN’T JUST THE GENERIC BLACK SWIMSUIT WITH A KIMONO.

YES BELIEVE IT OR NOT, SOME OF US ACTUALLY WANT A THONG BIKINI, THE WHOLE SELECTION DOESN’T HAVE TO BE HIGHWAISTED.

WE’RE GONNA NEED YOU TO STOP USING MODELS WITH FAKE BOOBS THAT AREN’T A REAL DEPICTION OF WHAT THE BRA WOULD LOOK LIKE ON OUR REAL DROOPY ONES.

ITS NOT FAIR THAT WE CAN’T WALK WEAR CUTE SWIMWEAR JUST BC WE ARE BUILT DIFFERENTLY. WE DESERVE TO WALK INTO A STORE AND PAY £10 FOR A NICE BIKINI WITHOUT BREAKING THE BANK AND OUR BODY CONFIDENCE.”

Needless to say, Instagram followers can definitely see where she’s coming from, and they made their agreements clear in the comments of the photo:

Being that a lot of plus sized women are actually showing up more and more in social media, I think it’s only right that Sonny rose from the ashes with this rant and got this many people to agree with her.

It’s 2017 and we still aren’t seeing dedicated clothes for different body types. Like, come on guys, it’s getting a little long in the tooth now…

Let’s just hope that the fashion industry responds positively to Sonny’s rant.
