The Ocean Disappeared From Florida And Bahamas Beaches Because Of Irma’s Devastating Power

1

The deadly laws of nature can often be unpredictable. Hurricane Irma, that developed on August 30, was the most intense hurricane observed since Dean in 2007. As a matter of fact, it was so strong that when it hit the Caribbean islands, it was registering on an earthquake device. The storm caused catastrophic damage in Barbuda, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Martin, Anguilla and the Virgin Islands as a Category 5 hurricane. Claiming more than 50 deaths, the hurricane shocked the whole world with one strange sight. A terrifying rare phenomenon is occurring that has left residents in absolute disbelief. The ocean retreated from the Bahama beaches, and it could be the sign of something much worse to come.

Tropical force winds have already left more than 2.6 million homes without power. These winds also started blowing toward the center of the storm, and therefore drew the waters of beaches in both Florida and the Bahamas away from their shores. According to Washington Post weather editor Angela Fritz, this is because of Irma’s low pressure. It acts as a “sucking mechanism — it sucks the air into it, and when it’s really low, it can change the shape of the surface of the ocean.” The sight is more than bizarre, but it’s also worrying. When something like this happens, it’s often a sign that the water will rush back rapidly with destructive momentum.

The environmental impact of Irma is already being felt by Floridians. Two manatees had to be rescued yesterday after the low tide left them stuck in mud.

Weather specialists say this is normal due to the power of Irma.
