Every up-incoming mother itches to find out what the gender of her baby is before they give birth, but how would you feel if the doctor told you that your child would be born with no legs and only upper arms? Not great, I’m guessing.
Back in 2014, Kate Whiddon was anxious to find out the gender of her baby after her ultrasound at 18 weeks, praying that it was a girl. The technician left the room in a hurry, and Kate thought that the sex of the baby wasn’t visible. The technician then came back into the room with the doctor, while Whiddon was still denying that there could be something wrong with the baby, still thinking that the gender was not visible at that moment in time.
“Things aren’t good. Things are really bad,” the doctor broke the news.
Not only did it turn out that the baby was a boy (bear in mind, Kate wanted a daughter), but the doctor also broke the news that the boy would be born with no legs and only upper arms. Kate kept praying for peace, and there wasn’t much she could do except cry.
With the awful news breaking loose, Kate scheduled an abortion, but after discussing the situation with her sister and mother, she decided to keep the baby, learning that other people had been praying for her that night.
From that point forward, she knew things would be hard, especially being a single mom. Thankfully, her family was very supportive and encouraged her to move home so they could help her while she went to college.
Fast forward to today, and her son Camden is doing really well, to the point where a video of him and his little brother is going viral on Facebook.
In the video, Camden is able to calm down his baby brother by putting a pacifier in his mouth. Whiddon is proud of how far her son has come and that he is able to take care of his two siblings.
“I know that most people look at Camden and think, poor child. But when he gets comfortable in his surroundings and starts doing things on his own, everyone always gathers around to watch!” she wrote.
“Don’t underestimate someone just because of the cover they were born in,” she said. Katie Whiddon is so grateful that she chose to give her son life, and now he amazes her every day!
