UK Mother Of Two Wants To Breastfeed Her Daughter Until She Turns 10

breastfeed

Quite a few mothers out there are embarrased about breastfeeding their children in public, som of them prefer not to breastfeed, while others are strong advocates of it. However, most mothers agree on one thing: at one point, it has to stop. Most of them tend to stop before their child turns a year old, but Miira Dawson plans to, if possible, breastfeed her daughter until the age of 10. Yes, really.

The 36-year-old from Poole, in the southwestern English county of Dorset has been making rounds all over the internet for her insane plan to breastfeed her daughter Tara until she turns 10 years old if it’s possible.

And the main reason why Miira chose to do this is intelligence.

“I think it is a lovely thing for a baby to grow up and remember being breastfed, as not many people would be able to say this — plus, there are all the health and IQ benefits.” Miira was quoted as saying.

Well, it’s safe to say that we can’t really know what it’s like to remember being breastfed, so no info whether that’s really magical or not.

Miira also has a two-year-old son that she also breast feeds three times a day.

“I don’t think other mums are bothered really. It’s none of their business but they may raise their eyebrows.” she told the UK media.

They also engage in the practice of co-sleeping

For those that don’t know, this essentially means she’s sleeping in the middle of the bed with her children on either side.

Miira thinks it is unnatural for children to sleep alone and has the same enthusiasm for co-sleeping as she does for breastfeeding. “My children have never had to cry to sleep, or sleep on their own, or wake up in the night and be afraid — because I’m there.” she said.

Her husband Jim said that he’s fine with the breastfeeding, but he did admit that he felt left out when it came to the co-sleeping as he was unable to read bedtime stories to his children and in general wasn’t able to spend as much time with them as he might like.

Miira also claims that any consideration to stop the breastfeeding makes her daughter really upset.

According to Dr. Maria Iacovou, a sociologist at the University of Cambridge, “It’s very rare to find someone who is still naturally feeding a child of six years. But there is absolutely no evidence that there is anything wrong, so why would mothers stop if it works for them[?]”
