While everyone anticipates the arrival of summertime in the year, like with everything in life, it has but a few downsides. And one of the bigger ones that drives basically everyone alive insane is mosquitoes. What have to be the most annoying insects in existence, mosquitoes have nothing better to do except circle around you, sting you and cause some serious itching.
Not only that, but they also can carry a ton of potentially life-threatening diseases, including the Zika and West Nile viruses, and more notably; malaria.
This video will give you the lowdown on why you’re a magnet for mosquitoes.
Depending on where you live, you might be seeing them more than others, but the interesting thing is that out of the 3000 plus types of mosquitoes that exist, only 200 or so like to bite people, and only females bite.
Their eggs begin to hatch in warmer climates, hence why they tend to appear in the summer.
Apparently, a child dies from malaria every 40 seconds, according to the World Health Organization.
They also transmit diseases to animals, and not just humans, such as dogs and horses, one of them being the West Nile virus. The video also reports that there are 1500-2000 malaria-related deaths in the US every year.
