It can be a total nightmare for up-in-coming parents to decide on a name for their child, but all of you parents can agree that whenever you do, it’s an amazing feeling and when your child is eventually born, you get to call it by its name and it’s the best feeling in the world.
One thing you need to realize is that sometimes, the name of your child can sound different in the ears of other people compared to yours, and in the case of Mumsnet user AutumnName, her child’s name didn’t turn out to be the best idea.
“My daughter was born on Halloween (2016) and I named her Autumn. I really like the look of it and the sound of it in my head. Since using it as a name, it doesn’t seem to work as well.” the mother wrote on Mumsnet.
“Whenever I say her name, I normally get a look and an ‘Autumn? Like the season?’ And it’s embarrassing.” she continued.
The mother also noted that her friends and family also weren’t the biggest fans of the name and had difficulty embracing it.
Everyone’s jabs at this woman’s naming strategy is really starting to get to her.
Because of all the negative comments, this anonymous mother is actually considering changing her baby’s name before her first birthday.
People online have very split views on what this mother should do. While some didn’t have a problem with the name, others were more concerned with the child’s grandmother, who said that the little one’s name should be Matilda.
When it came to the positive comments, people wrote stuff like, “I like it. Your mom should be happy you didn’t call her Hally, short for Halloween.”
While another wrote, “Autumn is a beautiful name. Don’t change her name, change your mum instead!”
Others seemed to be on board with changing her name, noting that the baby is still pretty young to be affected by a name change.
Most of the people thought that the name Autumn was gorgeous and that this mom should keep it and not feel guilty about choosing that name.
What do you think? Should this mother change her daughter’s name to something else, or should it stay Autumn like it already is? Share your thoughts in the comments!
