That “Men are from Mars and women are from Venus” might be the greatest gender cliche ever, but it rings so true to so many people because it actually puts the finger on the pulse perfectly. Probably one of the most famous book titles ever, it comes from John Gray’s 1992 eponymous book which claims that in order to improve male-female relationships and understanding, it is important to understand that there are fundamental psychological differences between the sexes.
Gray’s book sold 50 million copies and, according to CNN, it was the “highest ranked work of non-fiction” of the 1990s and spent 121 weeks on the bestseller list. Its greatest legacy, however, is its central metaphor which has become the world’s main go-to when summarizing gender differences, as well as part of popular culture. Here are twelve funny pictures which indeed prove not all of us are from the same planet.
