20-year-old Royals singer and record producer Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor (Lorde) just surprised her fans at the VMAs two days ago. The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards were held on August 27 at The Forum in Inglewood, California. These awards have had a lot of notorious moments in the history. This year’s show was hosted by Katy Perry. You might have seen some stunning performances, but Lorde was a real surprise. The New-Zealand singer did not perform due to the flu, but was that the real reason? She gave the audience a dancing performance instead.
Lorde had many high-profile performances this year at Coachella, Governors Ball, and many other, but this year’s VMAs on Sunday was definitely her most talked about. She performed “Homemade Dynamite” from her album released in June. Another interesting fact is she didn’t actually sing. Upon stepping on stage, Lorde placed a cassette in a boom box, and began an interpretive dance to the track. She wasn’t even lip-syncing. At times, she was joined by other dancers who lifted her around the stage, but at no point did she try to sing.
Before the show began, she took it to Twitter to notify the fans that he wasn’t feeling very well.
“You can’t tell in these pictures but i have the flu so bad i needed an IV #showgoeson #cutelilproppedupcorpse,” she wrote.
“We love you babe! Feel better (still slayed)!” the official VMAs Twitter account wrote in response.
However, after her performance, many of her fans were shocked, including Maroon 5’s Adam Levine. He wrote on Twitter: “Julia Michaels gets cut off while she’s singing and Lorde gets to NOT sing her whole song”.
Later on, however, her fans defended her saying she was not able to sing. But, with Lorde, you never know what’s going to happen next!
While we all wonder, take a look at her performance below:
