Three years ago, when Isa-bella Leclair shared a picture in a bikini, it was simply a memory from a family trip to Florida. But recently the picture became a body-positive message for many people who saw it online. The thing is, when you first look at it, her leg looks strange.
The 19-year-old wrote an essay revealing how her rare genetic condition, Parkes Weber syndrome, affected her body. As you can already see in the picture, her right leg is swollen two times more than the size of her left one. By the time she entered college, her leg weighed 40 pounds so she couldn’t play sports or find jeans and cute dresses that would fit her.
“Because I was born with the malformation, I had no other choice but to get used to people staring and asking me questions,” Leclair penned in the essay, shared on a blog called The Lymphie Life, a web community focused on Lymphalexa, a side effect of Leclair’s disease.
“My condition doesn’t define me and no way I will let it stop me from wearing a cute swimsuit or a cute dress. I don’t fit in skinny jeans or fancy shoes so I have to find alternatives, but I always end up still feeling good about my body,” she continued.
This confident message from her went viral on social media leaving Isa-Bella forever grateful.
