English actress Ella Hughes used to study for a law degree but she was crumbling under the weight of serious self-doubt and body issues. Now, she has revealed how a switch to the adult entertainment industry has boosted her self-esteem and made her happier than she’s ever been, with her new calling even landing her an appearance on Game Of Thrones.
The 22-year-old from Southampton features in BBC Three’s new documentary series Sex Map of Britain where she reveals how carving out a career in which she performs on camera, sells racy lingerie and does stripteases on webcam has benefited her greatly.
Prior to this, Hughes was studying for a law degree and modeled in magazines for men but has put her postponed her education indefinitely.
She detailed her transition in the episode called A Career in Porn:
“I hated the sound of my own voice and never thought I was pretty enough. I struggled a lot with weight issues. I never thought in a million years I would be capable of doing something like this.”
Since taking a leap into the adult entertainment industry, however, Ella has amassed a huge following of 200,000 on her social media profiles Twitter and Instagram page and her R-Rated profession even landed her a role on season six of Game Of Thrones where she appeared as a prostitute.
While hasn’t completely given up her studies, Hughes said she has put her ambitions for a career in the law on hold for now:
“I’m halfway through that, I have postponed that for now. I did a stint doing lads’ mags, then it kind of progressed from one into the other.”
“People constantly ask me why I chose a life of porn over law – a degree doesn’t secure a future, you secure your own future by working hard and finding a career path that works for you …or some other similar motivational shit,” she wrote on her Instagram page.
Despite being labelled as a “w****, a s*** or a prostitute” and as someone “riddled with STIs,” the Sotonian remains unfazed by such comments:
“I almost kind of don’t care, because my love for my job kind of outweighs them, it conquers all. At the end of the day I am a businesswoman, I am my own company and if that’s not power to women then what is?”
Unilad writes how while some may question her chosen profession, it gives a “different look into the adult entertainment industry” and “an alternative opinion” from the Netflix documentary Hot Girls Wanted which was produced by Parks and Recreation actress Rashida Jones.
