Australian magazine New Idea has made an outrageous claim that Kylie Minogue has been quietly dating Prince Andrew, the Duke of York for the past several weeks. The close friendship between the Melbourne-born singer and Queen Elizabeth II’s third child reportedly turned into something more after Kylie split from her fiance, actor Joshua Sasse in February.
“At the moment they’re inseparable – Andrew is 100 per cent smitten,” a source from the Buckingham Palace told the magazine.
The Daily Mail has reported it all started after the Prince contacted the singer to offer his condolences after her relationship with Joshua, who was 19 years her junior, ended.
The pop queen was recently awarded the Britain-Australia Society Award for 2016 by Prince Phillip.
“Kylie is someone that Her Majesty would welcome into the royal family with open arms. Everyone’s hoping this romance goes the distance,” an insider close to the royal family reportedly told New Idea.
The 57-year-old Duke of York was married to writer and television personality Sarah Ferguson between 1986 and 1996. Their divorce was a highly-publicized affair in Britain and attracted lots of media coverage. The second son of the Queen, he holds an honorary rank of vice admiral and saw action during the Falklands War as well as serving as Britain’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment until July 2011. He has been part of significant controversies in the past, including arms sales, close contacts with dictators, sex abuse allegations and a friendship with American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
And judging by reactions on Twitter, it seems Minogue, who was invested as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2008, has managed to induce quite a shock with this latest romantic choice.
“Kylie and Prince Andrew is one of the more ridiculous things I’ve heard today,” one Londoner wrote, while another user quipped “Late April Fools joke?”.
However, it seems like sparks have already flown between the two friends in the past as a historic post from 2014 saw one Twitter user say: “Today I read in a magazine that Kylie was flirting with Prince Andrew. But she’s not interested and he’s disappointed. Oh my god.”
Oh my god indeed. Is it going to be something more than a flirtation this time around?
