One of the most judgmental things that I hear from people is the question “what does he/she see in him/her anyways?” Seriously, why judge other people’s relationship from a distance and make wild assumptions about who’s compatible with whom?
Of course, I am not talking about the ones who judge people based on personality, if you see two people whose personalities just don’t match or might even be victims of abusive behavior, then you might have the right to call it out. But then again, who are we really to judge?
As a society, we tend to hold the view that there are certain “tiers” or physical attractiveness and that lasting relationships can only be fostered between those who match in terms of physical characteristics. Someone who was marked as 9/10 could never go out with someone who was only 3/10. This idea could also be treated as an aberration except the fact that physical attractiveness is a purely subjective quality.
People on social media (mostly women) have a cause to be hyper-aware and uncomfortably conscious of their looks especially in comparison to their parents. When the majority of us judges two people to be physically dissimilar, body-shaming trolls and cruel comments are very common. But, this week a body-positive woman has turned back against her critics with a very inspiring post that lays her body and marriage bare.
Jazzy posted the above picture to her Instagram account and captured a day spent on a sun-kissed beach with her lovely husband. The image was followed by the caption: “Over the years this man has loved every curve, every roll, and every stretch mark on my body. I never understood why.”
She also added: “How could he love something that isn’t ‘perfect?’ How could a man who was ‘born fit’ love someone like me? I don’t have a flat stomach, I jiggle when I walk. If I run up the stairs too fast my body claps! But now I see I do have the ‘perfect’ body! Every roll, every curve and every stretch mark is put on me just perfect to make both of us happy! I love my body and I finally see why he does too!”
A lot of viewers shared their admiration for Jazzy by commenting: “My man is super fit too. He calls me juicy and loves my stomach and all my curves. My body has been fit and I know thin does not equal happiness or love! He also says I’m like the women in Historic nude paintings – beautiful!” while another added, “Girl, my body claps too, can I get a round of applause?! Love this.”
