Nothing depicts how much out of hand plastic surgery trends have gotten as human dolls. And if you thought girls trying to resemble Barbies is something restricted to Russia or the female gender, you would be very much mistaken. Boys want to look like Ken, too!
Men also haven’t been immune to spending astonishing amounts of money in pursuing a doll-like appearance. 33-year-old Rodrigo Alves, who has come to be known as the Human Ken Doll, is currently recovering from his 50th operation and is now applying to be an official world record holder for most plastic surgeries. The current world record holder is American Cindy Jackson, who has spent a total of $640,000 on 47 cosmetic procedures since 1988.
Brazil-born Alves, who will appear on UK’s Celebrity Big Brother later this year, has spent a staggering $490,000 on plastic surgery over the years. His latest project was the implantation of a set of fake abdominal muscles. He said: “People say to me that I look so fit, but darling, my abs are fake. I have $26,000 silicone implants. My arms are fake and full of filler. I’m not fit at all. I can’t even run a mile. I am out of breath and shaking and about to faint at any moment. But I am trying.”
The British television show This Morning recently broke down the cost of every one of the procedures the Sao Paolo-born underwent. The list includes $9,700 spent on Botox and fillers, $36,000 on nose jobs, $8,500 on fillers to his arms, and $8,500 on laser liposuction.
When asked how he can afford all of the expensive procedures, Alves explained that he was using his inheritance: “My grandparents left me with property, I am very blessed, and I used to be a flight attendant and now I have two shows on TV, one here and one in the USA. This is how I pay for all this surgery.”
Although born in Brazil, Alves is of European origin and holds a British passport due to his family background. His ancestors immigrated to Brazil in the 1940s to start a farming business which then expanded and developed to include shopping centers, supermarkets and property. Rodrigo mostly resides in London but also divides his time between properties in Los Angeles and Marbella, Spain.
Speaking to This Morning presenter Ruth Langsford about a possible addiction to plastic surgery, Alves said: “I don’t think I’m addicted. It’s painful and very expensive. It’s constant maintenance, like the MOT of a car. I don’t encourage people to do what I do. I want people to better themselves.”
“Three years ago I was given this nickname, I’m just having fun with it. Apparently, I look like a doll – I don’t think I do, I just want to perfect myself,” the 33-year-old said about the ‘Human Ken Doll’ nickname that has made him famous.
