When weddings are planned, you expect the worst to happen. That’s why you see brides crying days before the wedding and organisers dealing with the tiniest details so that everything is made perfect. Then comes wedding shoots and they are supposed to be the least concern. One couple, however, had their photoshoot photobombed in the most hilarious way.
But when Brittany Ross Cook saw her groom, dressed in his wedding suit, plunging into a pond in a park in Canada, it was no joke. He jumped into a pond right in the middle of their photoshoot to save a little boy’s life, and he became a hero.
The couple had said their “I do’s” and were posing for wedding photos on September 22 in a park near Kitchener, Ontario. During the photoshoot, three children had been following them around, giggling and cheering them on.
“I was sort of keeping a close eye on them, just because they were close to the water,” the groom Clayton Cook told BBC World News’, Newsday
Whilst smiling for pictures, the groom noticed that one of the boys was struggling to swim. Then, without pausing for breath, Clayton Cook hurtled into the river to the boy’s aid.
“I look over and I see Clay in the water and I think, what is he doing?” describes Brittany Cook.
The groom had the following to say about this precarious situation;
“His face was underwater and he was fighting, like he was really fighting. Luckily, he was only a little guy…and I honestly just sort of hopped him up.”
Cook told the BBC that although the boy was okay, “he was in a lot of shock, and he was probably pretty tired. I think he was fighting for longer than I even thought.”
The wedding photographer Darren Hatt captured pictures of the groom’s heroics. He posted the photos online over the weekend.
“A special shout out to last night’s groom Clayton!” Hatt wrote in the post on Facebook. “While I was taking solo pictures of the bride this little guy was pushed into the river behind me by another child. By the time the bride noticed and shouted out, Clayton had already jumped down and brought him to safety. His quick action saved the little guy who was struggling to swim. Well done sir!”
The photographer added a few more words about the incredible action by the groom:
“It was a commendable thing that he did and he sprung into action incredibly quick. Almost as soon as I realised what was going on, he had already saved the day.”
His bride, Brittany, said her Clay’s bravery is one of the reasons she was marrying him;
“That’s Clay, like that’s Clay to me. It’s something he would just instinctively do. It was like fate almost, we were meant to be there.”
