Asher Freeman launched Freeman Design in 2014, after completing a Diploma of Goldsmithing with high distinction at Peter Minton’s Goldsmith School. He cut his teeth by crafting bespoke jewelry for a high-end boutique in Ausckland’s CBD. The 31-year-old from Auckland makes stunning creations, but there is one piece that caught our attention. Specifically his incredible Golden Snitch engagement box.
About this time last year, a Harry Potter fan and custumer of Asher’s came to him to make the special moment an extra special surprise. And so, the Golden Snitch was commissioned.
The Snitch was made out of Sterling Silver and had an extra thick coating of 18ct yellow gold. The wings, likewise, plated in an extra thick coating of Rhodium.
He told Metro.co.uk: “I had the inspiration to make a Golden Snitch ornament for JK Rowling about 3 years ago (which I still hope to make) that has a couple of secret surprises, as a thank you for creating a world of such wonder and imagination that never ceases to inspire me.
“About the same time, I had another customer who wanted me to alter a Snitch styled pendant watch into an Engagement Ring box for him. On finishing this, I posted it to a Bored Panda post ‘20+ Geeky Engagement Rings And Boxes No Geeky Girl Can Refuse‘, where it was well received and I was contacted by the very thoughtful man who commissioned the Golden Snitch inspired ring box.”
He drew it first with the aid of 3D computer modeling and then he printed it and cast it in sterling silver by using the Lost Wax Casting process. He worked for a good 60 hours of hand work and scrutiny to finish it to the highest standards.
Now, he’s looking forward to making another version with a different surprise inside.
He continued: “It has completely floored me. I put a lot of pressure on myself to really do it justice and make it at a level that hasn’t been rivaled.”
“Knowing how much people are loving it and appreciating the heart in it is quite literally the highest compliment/satisfaction that I could get from it.”
“As cheesy as it sounds, I cant even begin to put into words how grateful and privileged I feel to have not only had the opportunity to make it, but also be a part of it all.”
The 31-year-old Harry Potter fan has other plans for the future.
“I have many plans! I am currently developing the designs of 3 other pieces from the books and hope to present them either as Museum pieces or gifts.”
“The world of Harry Potter that JK Rowling has created is a very easy place to lose yourself in.”
We can definitely agree with him. This necklace is stunning!
