You might remember the trend of women putting oak galls made of wasp larvae in their vaginas, but now there’s an even more dangerous trend sweeping the world.

This latest and deadly trend involves placing glitter capsules in your lady area. I seriously wish I was making that up.

A product called Passion Dust is designed to be put inside your private parts to give your late-night bedroom time with your loved one a little bit of a sparkle, and it tastes like candy for some reason!

The makers behind it (Pretty Woman Inc) have described it as “a sparkalized capsule that is inserted into the vagina at least one hour prior to having sexual intercourse”.

“As the capsule becomes increasingly warmed and moistened by the natural vaginal fluids it will begin to dissolve releasing the sparkling, candy flavoured passion dust inside of the capsule. [It’s] just enough to make your lover feel that your Yara (water-lady or little butterfly) is what all vaginas are supposed to look, feel and taste like; soft, sweet and magical!”

Needless to say, gynecological professionals were quick to respond and advise against this new trend.

Shazia Malik is a consultant gynecologist and obstetrician. She has said that instead of “sparkalizing” your sex life, the glitter could, in fact, give you some pretty nasty infections. She also warned that it could remove the spark entirely from your relationship.

“Using a product like this so called passion dust might actually kill off any passion at all. The starch and gelatin will increase the pH as well as adding sugar to vaginal secretions – which will encourage harmful bacteria and fungi such as Candida to thrive. This causes increased discharge and a painful inflamed vagina, which causes painful intercourse,” she explains.

Dr. Jen Gunter, a Canadian gynecologist was also very quick to advise women to not “glitter bomb your vagina”.

“Just because something is safe for your lips, for example glitter lip gloss, doesn’t mean it is safe for the vagina. After all one can remove lip gloss and lip bacteria doesn’t control your gastrointestinal track or protect you from gonorrhea or HIV.

“Is it safe to gargle might be a better first step in the quest for vagina glitter, but even then the mucosa and anatomy are so different it is really best to not put an untested substance vaginally. I just don’t get the point of inserting glitter vaginally. It is not as if anyone will see it until, surprise, a coitally induced glitter penis! Dudes, I gotta ask. Is this a thing?”

So yeah, if you want to add some spice to your sex life, don’t do it by filling your vagina with glitter. That way, you’ll just make it worse
