There are numerous bizarre things people do just to become famous and rich. Some may change their bodies, some may do dangerous stuff, just to get the thrill of the fame. Sometimes, people may also spend thousands of dollars to look like their favorite comic books character. But this woman tried something else. She wanted to look like her favorite animal – the giraffe. The giraffe woman tried to lengthen her neck by wearing metal rings, but then, something changed her mind.

It all happened five years ago when a woman decided to become famous and look like a giraffe. She needed one special thing: the long neck.

Thirty-year-old Sydney V. Smith started the procedure several years ago. She tried to stretch her neck and look like her favorite animal.

First, she applied copper rings to her neck, and immediately labeled herself as “the giraffe woman.”

What was her inspiration?

She got inspiration from her fascination with giraffes, but there was also another thing. She took an interest in the Kayan Lahwi tribe of Thailand and Burma.

Here is a Kayan woman with the classic extended neck jewelry in Thailand. In fact, Sydney claims that her neck did get very long, but not like this woman.

The metal rings started working over time. They seemed to have made her neck longer.

Also, she added ring after ring to her neck as it got longer.

However, she got tired of the rings over time.

Then, she decided to take them off after five years. She just wants her normal life back now.

“I spent five years of my life with rings around my neck and I just became very introverted and isolated and felt like the rings were taking over my life in every way,” she described in an interview.

She now needs to undergo physical therapy to alleviate the stiffness. She explained that her “neck felt very weak, kind of like arms on a toothpick.” Over time, her neck has begun to shrink back.
