Those artists who are able to create amazing art today weren’t born with that talent. It’s all acquired overtime. You’re all familiar with the saying “Practice makes perfect”. You might not be good at drawing at first, but with consistent practice and new techniques learned on a regular basis, you can really hone your skills and become great at it.
In case you’re not convinced, here are a few pieces of work from talented artists back when they started drawing compared to the present day or a more recent date, and you’ll clearly see the progression. This concept is otherwise known as the ‘Draw This Again’ challenge.
1. 2005 vs. 2017
by Jade Mere
2. A lot of things get better with age
3. Progression to semi-realistic
4. From simple pastels to a nice cel-shaded look
5. Just one year!
Look at how realistic the more recent one looks! This is an impressive improvement for just a year.
6. Jessica Alba
I swear the right one is a photo and not a drawing. Someone prove me wrong!
7. Not that big of a difference
But it’s still very noticeable.
8. Re-done digital painting by Sara Tepes
9. One of the most insane improvements!
10. Ultra realistic dog
4 years apart.
11. Bunny – 7 years apart
12. Age 5 vs age 15
The 2011 version has an interesting, purposefully amateur looking aesthetic. At least in my eyes.
13. Three year progress
14. Laying in bed
Both photos look amazing, if I’m being honest.
