Original Joe’s Restaurant & Bar in Alberta, Canada understands the importance of societal engagement and responsibility. This establishment makes it a priority to be actively involved in the community it serves; that’s why they run various initiatives such as one for sharing meals, a community care fund and the popular ‘Community Pint’.
It is, therefore, no wonder that Joe’s employees don’t feel like their care for their customers ends once they leave the restaurant’s premises. This was experienced by Paula Grzelak-Schultz who visited one of Original Joe’s locations in Sherwood Park, Alberta back in October 2016 and left the restaurant a little bit tipsy. She did her civil duty by leaving her car at the Joe’s parking lot and took an Uber in order not to endanger anyone.
And when she came back to pick up her car, a wonderful surprise awaited her.
The restaurant staff had left a note on her windshield thanking her for the responsibility she showed the night before; they also enclosed a voucher for some of their famed chicken wings on the house as a way of saying thank you.
The note read:
“Dear Original Joe’s Sherwood Park Guest,
Just wanted to thank you for leaving your car parked overnight. I’m not sure if you had consumed alcohol at our restaurant or not, but we wanted to thank you for not drinking and driving. Enclosed is voucher good for 1lb of our delicious chicken wings. Please accept this as a thank you for being responsible. Life is valuable, have a great weekend.”
The note was left by Jay McLean who is the manager of the restaurant. Jay says he had started this practice to discourage their guests from drunk driving and a similar note and a voucher awaits anyone who shows the good sense to leave their car in the parking lot and take a cab home.
Paula’s post went viral with more than 19,000 likes and over 8,700 shares as well as 1,100 comments.
The Original Joe’s chain posted they are stunned by the reaction to the letter, responding: “Crazy how one act of kindness can go viral. We just want everyone to make it home safe. Thank you for not drinking and driving!”
