Free The Nipple: 16 Celebrities Who Love Baring Their Areolas (NSFW)

02 (Custom)

The official Free the Nipple campaign was started in 2012 by filmmaker Lina Esco when she was making the eponymous movie. The project’s message of equality that has spread like wildfire, along with the #FreeTheNipple hashtag. Women’s breasts, however, still remain largely stigmatized and their exposure in public is frequently frowned upon, but many famous and influential people have played a huge role in the progress made so far and continue to bare their breasts in support of public breastfeeding and going topless.

1

Kendall Jenner

On her website and app, Kendall – who has often worn sheer tops  – wrote about her affinity for going topless, saying she’s “cool with her breasts” and doesn’t mind going braless.

2

Chelsea Handler

Despite some trouble with Instagram, Handler loves to free the nipple and has often advocated toplessness on Twitter, even doing it Putin-style while riding a horse.

3

Amber Rose

Rose posted this striking photo to Twitter with the #freethenipple hashtag to show her participation in the movement.

4

Alanis Morrisette

Many stars are playing their part in freeing the nipple in order to ensure public breastfeeding without judgment or stigma. This photo shows Alanis Morissette breastfeeding with an “I Voted” sticker, perhaps killing two birds with one stone.

5

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus frequently posts #freethenipple content on Instagram — but you might have missed most, as the photos often get taken down. In fact, this one is captioned, “I still can’t believe that my fake tits get censored.”

6

Cara Delevingne

Cara Delevingne uses social media to point out the hypocrisy in how differently the world sees the nipples of men and women. In this photo, she pointed out the similarities between male and female breasts, showing the absurdity of it being okay for a man to post his nipple while she has to censor hers.

7

Lena Dunham

Lena has frequently been seen wearing a T-shirt from the Free The Nipple film, and posed wearing pasties in this pic before the 2015 Golden Globes.

8

Bella Hadid

Bella Hadid went totally bare for the French Vogue magazine cover photo shoot and hashtagged the Instagram post both #Freeingthenipple and #LoveYourBody.

9

Naomi Campbell

In 2015, as part of the promotion for her upcoming Taschen book, the supermodel shared a topless photo of herself to Instagram. While the post was later removed, the photo lives on.

10

Suki Waterhouse

The British model cheekily supported nipple freedom with this Instagram post showing an almost non-existent bathing suit captioning it with “Free the nipple.”

11

Bella Thorne

As Bella Thorne once told Playboy, “There’s this effort to try to shame a woman’s sexiness by pulling a cover over it, but I’m a woman who loves skin,” something that she’s regularly backed with her fashion choices.

12

Scout Willis

It is apparently legal to be topless in New York City and Scout Willis takes full advantage of it — even though Instagram took this photo down. She reposted it on Twitter, where it’s alive, well and abundantly retweeted.

13

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen, who often breastfeeds baby Luna in public, has had her fair share of #freethenipple censorship drama with Instagram before, so she cleverly avoided having this photo deleted by covering her areola up with a can of hairspray.

14

Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde is another one who has long supported people’s right to breastfeed openly — in a 2014 Glamour cover shoot, she breastfed her son.

15

Emily Ratajkowski

The supermodel recently opened up to Allure about being comfortable with her sexuality and her body, which is a huge part of the Free the Nipple movement. Here she is posing nude for Love magazine.

16

Rihanna

The Barbadian has been freeing the nipple since before #freethenipple was a thing — in fact, she didn’t even know the campaign existed when she was asked about it at the 2016 CFDA awards.
