Chinese single mother Zou Hongyan welcomed her son Ding Ding in 1988. After birth complications which almost led him to suffocate, it was concluded that he was born with celebral palsy, and the doctors claimed that he wouldn’t be worth saving.
Twenty-nine years later, Ding Ding is not only a Peking University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences and engineering, he’s also a Harvard Law student. If anything, this shows what lengths a mother will go to to make sure her children grow up into a healthy and successful person. Zou worked three jobs as a single mother to support her small family, and taught Ding to use chopsticks when he was young, which was a very difficult thing.
“I didn’t want him to feel ashamed about these physical problems,” she told the South China Morning Post. “Because he had inferior abilities in many areas, I was quite strict on him to work hard to catch up where he had difficulties.”
Zou’s husband disowned the boy, so she had to divorce him and raise Ding Ding all by herself.
Her hard work and upbringing definitely paid off
I’m sure she is incredibly proud of her son.
