The Newfoundland and Labrador Beard and Moustache Club is a facial hair club in Canada. Now, they are partnering with charity Spirit Horse NL for a charity calendar. The goal of the charity is to enhance the mental health and life skills of people through therapeutic interaction with horses. So, if you fancy your Mermen bearded and if you like your charities doing amazing things locally, this is the calendar for you! These handsome dudes were born to be mer-maid models.
These handsome guys are making headlines with their new mer-creature themed “dudeoir” calendar. The calendar is called MerB’ys, a portmanteau phrase that combines the word merman with the Newfoundland term “b’y” (pronounced “bye”), a gender-neutral term like the word buddy. And it’s all for a good cause.
The club had never released a calendar before, and this first edition already has 500 calendars pre-ordered. The group’s founder Hasan Hai was inspired by a merman themed photoshoot that his friend sent him on Facebook. He was also surprised by the fact that he received around 80 responses from willing models. All of the profits will be given to the previously mentioned local charity.
“Something about a bunch of bearded men being comfortable in their own skin ― and being extremely vulnerable in ways that defy traditional standards of masculinity ― seems to have connected with people,” Hasan said for the HuffPost.
The attractive men needed some time to get used to their tails but still managed to do a great photo shoot as Hai recalled the flipping about during the session.
“We were doubling over laughing and trying to wipe the tears from our eyes,” he said. “I was the informal artistic director at each shoot so I had the pleasure of telling burly bearded fellows to hold hands, blow one another kisses, or bat their eyes at one another.”
Here are more photos of the mer’bys in action. Visit their official site or the Facebook if you want to buy the calendar.
