It was back in September when fans of the cult movie Hocus Pocus were thrilled to hear that Disney Channel was working on a remake of the movie. The 1993 comedy horror fantasy movie was a lot of people’s favorite because of the story about the three villainous witches, who are inadvertently resurrected by a teenage male virgin in Salem, Massachusetts. But it seems like one of the cast members is not so pleased about the remake of the movie. 71-year-old Bette Milder apparently thinks that Disney Channel’s remake of Hocus Pocus will be “cheap”.
In September, E! News learned that Disney Channel is working on a remake of the classic Halloween movie. A spokesperson for Disney Channel later confirmed that the project is indeed in the phases of early development. Also, it was announced that producer David Kirschner, who worked on the original 1993 movie, will be its executive producer.
Midler, who played the iconic role of Winifred Sanderson in the 1993 movie, was not so pleased with the news. While attending the New York Restoration Project’s Hulaween event on Monday, the actress shared some thoughts on the topic. This happened during her interview with People.
“I know it’s cheap. It’s going to be cheap!” Midler said about the movie remake. “I’m not sure what they’re going to do with my character. My character is very, very broad and I don’t know who they’re going to find to play that.”
People asked Midler is she would return for a good price. Then, she replied: “No, no, no!”
The original film’s director, Kenny Ortega, as well as Sanderson sisters Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, are not a part of the remake either. Back in 2015, the media asked Midler if there will be a remake of the movie while answering questions on Facebook. Her response was: “After all these years and all the fan demand, I do believe I can stand and firmly say an unequivocal no,” she shared.
What are our thoughts on the Disney Channel remake?
