Boxing has been around since basically forever, and these days it’s big business.
One of the most famous and successful boxers nowadays is Anthony Joshua. Despite his messy past, the 27-year-old currently holds the International Boxing Federation heavyweight champion award, and has a perfect record with 18 fights, 18 wins and 18 knockouts so far.
He’s soon facing his toughest opponent yet, Wladimir Klitschko, and the fight is set to take place аt a sold out Wembley Stadium in front of 90,000 spectators.
Joshua has well over £30m ($38m) in his bank account and is sponsored by big brands such as Under Armour, Lucozade, Beats by Dre and Jaguar.
So with all of those sponsors and all that cash, you would expect Joshua to live lavishly in some huge mansion on the coast. But surprisingly, this is not true at all.
Believe it or not, the multi-million dollar heavyweight champion lives in a council flat in North London, UK with his mother, who is a social worker.
He only started boxing at the age of 17, and despite the overwhelming success, he has never fought anyone who is really of any worth, and he admits ‘but for boxing, I would be behind bars’.
AJ has spent time in prison and he twice avoided lengthy jail sentences, and look where he is now.
“In a way, I’m glad it happened, because it woke me up. It wasn’t so much the actual charge that had the effect. It was all the grief from my friends, my family – especially my mum – and from boxing.”
Who do you think is going to win the Joshua x Klitschko fight? Would you live with your mom like this even if you were a multimillionaire? Let us know in the comments!
