While many of us are struggling to get out of bed in the morning, we don’t often have the time to eat properly. Here are some ideas of food that will help you with your metabolism in the morning, but that’s not the only thing you should do when you get up. There have been countless studies to show the importance of having breakfast in the morning, but some people do other things instead. It happens so often that these are not only wrong, but also harmful to your body. There are certain things you should avoid doing on an empty stomach.
Grabbing some breakfast is surely not one of them. And by having breakfast I don’t mean eating junk food instead. Excercise is also a good start to the day.
But some just don’t have the nerves to do it.
Here are some no-nos when it comes to getting up in the morning.
1. Tablets and pills
Anyone who takes nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid taking them on an empty stomach. This also goes for tablets like aspirin and paracetamol. If you take them on an empty stomach it can lead to gastric bleeding or reducing the effectiveness of the medication! The best thing to do when taking these pills in the morning is to wash it down with a glass of milk and a slice of toast! It’s the least you can do for yourself.
Most of us reach for a cup of coffee first thing in the morning, but what you really need is actually breakfast. Drinking black coffee on an empty stomach can actually result in acid that will probably result in heartburn and acid reflux. Try adding some cream or milk into your coffee as the fat in the milk will help ease your digestion.
You might need a medical professional if you need a drink in the morning. If you can’t resist the temptation, grab some orange juice instead and pair it with a sandwich, this will help ease digestion!
4. Chewing gum
This can actually result in some nasty damage to your stomach lining! It’s also proven that people who regularly chew gum prefer junk food over fresh and healthy food.
This may look obvious, but many people do it. When you don’t get enough sleep, you often end up craving more savory and fatty foods in the morning. So the best thing to do is to have some dairy products before bed, like milk, for example. No more early morning unhealthy cravings!
But if you hit the gym before breakfast, you are actually doing more harm than good! Before doing it, it’s best to have something to eat. But if you insist on fasted training then it’s best if you do some form of aerobic exercise (like jogging) instead.
7. Go shopping
Surprised to see this on the list? If you are hungry, you are more likely to spend money on food you fancy instead of food you actually need. Before you go shopping, you should always have something to eat.
8. Lemon juice
You should never drink lemon juice on an empty stomach. It can have some pretty serious effects on your stomach lining!
I know this sounds crazy but you should never starve yourself when you are on a diet. According to recent studies, this will have the opposite effect on you. Have a small healthy snack at regular intervals to avoid any binge eating.
