Hyperrealism In Body Art: Three-Dimensional Tattoos That Will Amaze You And Give You The Chills

hyperrealism

Hyperrealism is an independent art movement that emerged as a genre of painting and sculpture in the early 1970s; considered a successor of photorealism, its works resemble high-resolution photographs. Now, almost half-a-century later, hyperrealism is making its way to the human skin as a form of tattoo art.

A rapidly growing trend, hyper-real three-dimensional tattoos are fast becoming both a hit and a shock. Although they have been around for several years, only now are they being discovered by the wider public thanks to their rising popularity on Instagram and other social media platforms. Nearly a hundred thousand posts on the photo and video sharing platform include the works of renowned 3-D tattoo artists such as Jesse Rix and Winston the Whale.

Though artistic shading of the human skin, effects like an illusion that the skin itself is three-dimensional, or that it has been pulled back to reveal a tattoo, are achieved. Others, still, strikingly pop out from the skin. And while the artists’ approach might vary, all of the tattoos are stunning (and a little shocking) for their realism. Yet again, wasn’t that how you felt the first time you saw a movie in 3-D?

The finished product after 10 1/2 hrs. On @owlbonez check out her page she has some cool work! We wanted to add some “old” tattoos to it but we were both pretty spent. Like traditional body art, 3-D tattoos use permanent ink to deposit pigment under the skin — which means that before getting one, you should make damn sure you want it (laser tattoo removal is not a pleasant process).
