10 Tricks That Prove More Organized Means Tidier

tidier

If your New Year’s resolution for 2017 was learning how to be tidier around the house, or if you often think that’s what your resolution should have been about while cleaning up, we have the perfect video for you. Kathryn from her DoItOnaDime, Youtube channel mission is to teach us how to lead a beautiful, organized lifestyle on a frugal budget. She will show you some simple changes you can do around your home, that will result in much tidier surroundings.

1. Neatness Vs. Organization

The North Carolinian explains that “being tidy and being organized are two different things.” She believes that tidying is simply “putting things away,” while organizing is “finding a system”. The latter is, obviously, the one you should aspire to if you want to live in cleaner surroundings.

As Kathryn eloquently puts it, “When you’re organized, it means you can look at your house that isn’t perfectly tidy all of the time… but you can know that you can very quickly put all of those items away and access them again when you need to”.

2. Allow Buffer Space

You don’t have to be a hoarder to accumulate stuff, especially if you have lived in the same place for a long time. We all have a primal need to fill up our spaces without always realizing it; it’s a common instinct having to do with turning a living space into a home. Kathryn gets it, but she believes there is a way of systematizing that will allow you to keep all the stuff you really need while freeing up space.

The key here is to always allow for “buffer space”. Follow your unique system, but make sure you don’t fill your bins to the brim. If things are looking particularly packed, instead of shoving and cramming — simply add more organizational implements.

3. Use a “Tidy-Up Basket”

‘Pausing’ a busy day to clean up around the house will, sadly, almost never be an option for most people. That’s why Kathryn suggests making what she calls a “tidy-up basket”. Throughout the day, items that can be put away later are added to the basket, and, at the end of the evening, the basket is being carried around the house and the items are being returns to the places where they belong.

It’s so much easier than stumbling around with an armful of unfolded clothes and toys. Brilliant!
